Stück aus Holz (UA)

In the organizer's words:

A visit to the forestry office, perhaps in Hesse, the federal state with its own primeval forest: a storm has ravaged the forest and further damaged the forest plantation, which has already been exploited for decades. But garbage dumped by people, the high risk of forest fires and the bark beetle are also causing problems for the foresters in this piece of wood. To make matters worse, the clean-up work is also jeopardizing the forestry office's regular working hours. The threat is serious in Felicia Zeller's latest play, a woodland comedy full of wooden sentences.

Confronted with a rapidly changing world in which wood and profit go hand in hand, the foresters and their district manager are confronted with the question of whether "forest" really always has to be worthwhile or whether doing nothing could be the answer. Perhaps the newly appointed "forester for environmental protection and sustainability" can solve the problems? Or maybe the podcaster Noa, who documents what is happening, keeps an outside perspective and even interviews the bark beetle?

In Stück aus Holz (UA), a commissioned work for the Staatstheater Kassel, rows of trees stand next to rows of sentences, clear-cut areas can be found and sawn-off sentences get lost in the forest.

The author Felicia Zeller, known for her sharp eye and bitter humor, writes theater texts and prose. Her plays have been invited to the Mülheim Theater Festival several times. Stück aus Holz (premiere) is her first work for the Staatstheater Kassel, but not her first collaboration with director Marie Bues. Stück aus Holz will be the fifth text by Felicia Zeller to be staged under the direction of Marie Bues. Bues is known for her experimental contemporary theater practices and her close collaboration with contemporary playwrights. She has been a member of the management team at Schauspielhaus Wien since the 23/24 season.
