Suminagashi – die Kunst des meditativen Malens auf Wasser

In the organizer's words:

Suminagashi literally means "flowing ink" and is one of the oldest marble techniques in Japan.

In this course, you will learn this meditative painting technique in which ink is used to create fine, organic patterns on the surface of water. Through gentle movements and conscious work, the flowing forms are then transferred to paper.
A decelerating experience that creates space for mindfulness, chance and creative expression.

The course offers a calm and intuitive introduction to the world of ink - without any pressure to perform.
Suitable for beginners, no previous experience is required.

In this course, you will learn the meditative painting technique of suminagashi step by step. To begin with, you will receive an introduction to the materials used: we will discuss different qualities of ink, their properties and effects, get to know different types of paper and learn which types of brushes are particularly suitable for this technique.

I will then teach you the specific procedure of the technique - from calmly applying the ink to the surface of the water to consciously controlling the flowing movements. You will learn how fine, organic patterns develop through gentle impulses and how to recognize the moment in which the image is transferred to the paper.

Another part of the course is dedicated to the drying phase and the possibilities for further processing the resulting works. Throughout the course, you will have plenty of time to create several works, experiment and view and discuss the results together.

Each resulting picture is a unique interplay of chance and conscious decision - not repeatable and created entirely in the moment.
The course is a decelerating experience that creates space for mindfulness, calm and individual creative expression.
