L E N A (PT, 2025. Director: Luigi Rapanelli. 25 min.) documents the life of the first female German big wave surfer, Lena Kemna. Attracted by her fascination for the huge waves in Nazaré, Portugal, the Bremen native dedicates all her power and discipline to the goal of riding one of these monsters herself. Lena moves to Nazaré, starts freediving, gets to know the local big wave community and tries to get closer to her big dream with perseverance and perseverance.

WOMEN & THE WIND (USA, 2024. Director: Alizé Jireh, Kiana Weltzien, Lærke Heilmann, 95 min.)

Three women ignite the flames of curiosity and adventure that burn in so many of us! Women & The Wind is a (sailing) adventure, a meditation and, above all, a story about self-empowerment: after spending a year renovating a rotten wooden catamaran, the three surfers Alizé, Kiana and Lærke set sail from North Carolina in the summer of 2022, their compass pointing east. Their mission: to follow the plastic waste that can now be found all over the Atlantic to Europe with the Gulf Stream and map it in order to raise awareness of the issue. But as soon as they set off, they realize that this journey is going to be above all an extreme self-experience. Kiana has been sailing alone on the Mara Noka since 2018 and is used to ocean crossings. But Lærke and Alizé have hardly any sailing experience...

30 long days and nights full of lulls, storms, setbacks and monumental beauty. Filmmaker Alizé Jireh's camera ran as if on the side, capturing life on board without make-up. Her authentic style allows us to go on this journey with the three of them. You experience the ever-changing state of the sea in all its splendor and duality, between gentleness and anger, and feel as if you are on the wobbly catamaran yourself - as free as you can be on the ocean. And when the crew has finally survived all the forces of nature, the toughest test awaits: the arrival on land.
