The Gloria-Kino is the oldest cinema in the city; films were shown in the "Central-Theater lebender Fotografien" as early as 1907. Since 2021, very special films and images with a historical connection to Heidelberg have been presented on the big screen at the Gloria-Kino during the "Day of the Open Monument".
This year's focus is Heidelberg in the 1920s, with the university in the heart of the old town. In cooperation with the Heidelberg City Archive, we are showing original footage from the 1920s on the big screen. Dr. Michael Braun from the city archive will guide you through the presentation.
The university archive is making a special film find available. The "Werbefilm" from the late 1920s provides unique insights into university life.
The Baden-Württemberg State Film Collection will provide us with authentic film finds from the period, including 100-year-old footage of the 1925 Summer Day parade.
There will also be a humorous, short silent film made by the Studierendenwerk to mark the 100th anniversary of the "Mensa Academica".
Following the event in Gloria, there will be guided tours of the historic Zeughaus at 12:00 and 13:00 with exclusive access to the Marstall Hall.
The events start on the hour and last around 45 minutes:
11:00 -11:45 a.m.
12:00 -12:45
