"It is an old story / But it always remains new", says one of Heine's poems about falling in love. The different variations of love play a decisive role, especially in Heine's early work. The writer himself also lost his heart to several women. His childhood sweetheart in Düsseldorf was the "red Sefchen", the daughter of an executioner. In Hamburg, Harry has a deep affection for his cousin "Molly", who sees him as nothing more than a "windbag". Heine has a passionate relationship with his wife Augustine Crescence, whom he calls Mathilde, and the two remain together for the rest of their lives.
The matinee traces love in Heine's life and work over a French breakfast with café and croissants. Original text passages will be accompanied by jazz standards on the piano.
