The Art of the Duo: Fred Frith

Fred Frith is best known for reinventing the electric guitar and touring the world for 50+ years. He is at once a singular musical figure and a collection of musical CVs. For his third appearance at The Art of the Duo, he will be joined by Chi Him Chik (saxophone, electronics) and Isabelle Raphaelis (flute, electronics).

About Fred:

Fred Frith is a composer, improviser and educator best known for reinventing the electric guitar, starting with Guitar Solos in 1974. With bands such as Art Bears, Massacre, Skeleton Crew, the Fred Frith Guitar Quartet, Cosa Brava and the FF Trio, he has remained true to his roots in rock and folk music, but at the same time has developed in many other directions. He taught for many years at Mills College in Oakland, California and at the Musik Akademie Basel, where he co-directed the master's program in improvisation. He is the subject of the popular film "Step Across the Border" by Nicolas Humbert and Werner Penzel, named by "Cahiers du Cinéma" as one of the hundred most influential films of the 20th century.
