They are perhaps the most influential indie rock band of our time: almost 20 years ago, The Kooks really shook up the British music scene - and have not lost any of their appeal to this day. It all began in the early 2000s in picturesque Brighton. The founding members around singer Luke Pritchard and guitarist Hugh Harris met while studying music and wrote more than 100 songs within a few months. Inspired by a David Bowie song, they gave themselves the name The Kooks: the eccentric, the crazy ones.
And they lived up to this name.
After just three months as a band, they received their first record deal with Virgin Records. Their debut album "Inside In / Inside Out" was released in 2006 and was a surprise success, earning them quintuple platinum status and the MTV Award for Best British Act. Two years later, "Konk" followed, with which The Kooks stormed to the top of the British charts and finally established themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the indie scene. For their third album "Junk Of The Heart" (2011), the band retreated to a farm to escape the hustle and bustle of success before venturing into an experiment full of soul, gospel and folk influences with "Listen" (2014). In 2018, the band returned to their indie roots with "Let's Go Sunshine". Luke Pritchard eventually moved to Berlin, where he wrote the songs for "10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark", released in 2022, during the pandemic. A more mature album that combines classic Kooks elements with themes such as past love, drunken party nights and his new role as a father. "Never/Know", the seventh studio album, followed in spring 2025.
The Kooks have always been a live band at heart - whether at their first gigs in the small bars of Brighton, as festival headliners or as support acts for legends like the Rolling Stones. Their timeless sound, the gripping hits and, in particular, the unique chemistry between Pritchard and Harris make their concerts some of the best in the entire indie cosmos to this day. And it is precisely this magic that they are bringing back to Germany in February 2026: fans can look forward to six concerts by The Kooks!
