It's time to celebrate love. In March 2026, the multi-award-winning Broadway musical "The Prom" will take to the stage of the Erholungshaus Leverkusen. The touching story about love, courage and acceptance will be performed live from March 20 to 29, 2026 - with a large ensemble, energetic choreography, a live orchestra and plenty of heart.

What is THE PROM about?

The musical tells the story of Emma Nolan, a high school student in a conservative US small town. All Emma wants is to go to the prom with her friend. But parts of the parents' and teachers' association block her wish - a classic prom is "not the right place" for same-sex couples, they say.

When four washed-up Broadway performers learn of the scandal, they sense an opportunity to improve their image with a PR-effective act of charity. They travel to Indiana to help Emma - initially out of self-interest, but they soon find themselves caught up in a maelstrom of genuine emotions and learn what it really means to stand up for justice.

A musical with attitude - and humor

The Prom is a fast-paced mix of humor, glitter, rousing songs and a clear message: love is for everyone. The play deals with topics from the LGBTQIA+ community, tolerance and self-determination - with a lot of charm, but also with depth.

Originally premiered on Broadway in 2018, the musical was nominated for seven Tony Awards and quickly became an international audience favorite. In 2020, the story received worldwide attention thanks to the Netflix film adaptation "The Prom". Directed by Ryan Murphy (including "Glee" and "American Horror Story"), it starred Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden and Ariana DeBose - a glittering spectacle that thrilled millions of viewers.
