SHĀ MÒ (沙漠) gives an insight into the distant school days of the musicians and friends in Shanghai, China. Reveling in shared memories from their school days brings a new, beautiful and almost mythical connection to their homeland. The four-piece band SHĀ MÒ (沙漠) combines influences from post-punk, krautrock and 90s post-rock to create an energetic set of driving guitars, personal stories and ever-growing tension. ELENA RUD
Indie pop | Munich
ELENA RUD lives between outburst, despair and self-irony. In their songs, the Munich indie band deals with topics such as mental health, body positivity and queerness. The five musicians around the eponymous front woman package these serious topics in a danceable sound of indie with a punky 80s flair. The charm of Elena's distinctive, raspy voice is at the heart of innovative pop music à la the latest German wave.

In her poetic lyrics, Elena addresses body dysmorphia, anxiety, experiences of sexism and toxic relationships. She calls this removal of taboos "Melancholic Love Shit" and expresses the world-weariness of her generation - between hatred of others and self-hatred, body image problems and anxiety.

The four boys not only support their front woman, but also defend themselves against the toxic ideals by which they themselves are measured - for more weakness, insecurity and glitter make-up instead of dominance, suppression and aggression.

As depressing as this may sound at first, ELENA RUD is not hopeless. On the contrary. Her appearance is self-confident, her message empowering: we all have these problems, let's finally talk about them. As in therapy, she seeks an open and honest confrontation with problems that can be unpleasant, perhaps even have to be unpleasant. ELENA RUD takes a seat on the imaginary couch and reveals herself.
