TI:YE

As a child of Vietnamese war refugees, the dark pop artist TI:YE deals with themes of the transgenerational past, cultural and identity conflicts, trauma and healing. Her attempt to give a voice to the unspeakable has developed into the unmistakable complexity of her style. It combines sophisticated sound design, sophisticated piano playing and subtly produced trip-hop beats in an impressive unity. TI:YE's voice strikes listeners in an almost uncanny way and makes them deeply empathize with her bitterness and accusation, sadness and hope.
