USA 1991 | 107 min. | OVR | D: Hal Hartley with Adrienne Shelly, Martin Donovan, Edie Falco
Seventeen-year-old Maria's life is in tatters: she unintentionally causes the death of her father, her boyfriend dumps her pregnant and her frustrated mother chases her out of the house. On the street, Maria stumbles into the equally hopeless Matthew, an educated high school graduate with a great talent for repairing electronic devices.
As one of the most important US independent films of the 90s, this romantic comedy impresses with Hartley's linguistic finesse and dry humor as well as a touching examination of family violence.
