Turkowski & Nowacka, JaWa

Everything is in motion in Turkowski & Nowacka's new production: The starting point of the play is the founding of JaWa, a social enterprise whose only employees are Jan, who is in housing difficulties, and Waldemar, who has just been released from prison. During their new work, the two meet and accompany the artists Iwona Nowacka and Janek Turkowski. They travel together to the Komuna Warszawa theater in Warsaw and take part in the renovation work in the garden as part of an artistic residency. In a combination of intimate theater piece and performance, Turkowski & Nowacka share their experiences from these 18 months of gardening and carpentry work together and the balancing act of this undertaking with the audience. "JaWa" takes a sensitive yet unsparing look at the complexity of community and asks how social activism is organized and what aspirations go hand in hand with it. The result is a moving and humorous story about dignity, addiction and freedom, poverty and wealth as well as crises and successes.
