Übersetzerwelten | Übersetzte Welten. Lesung und Gespräch mit Margret Millischer

The Institut français Munich, in collaboration with the Czech Centre Munich, is pleased to organize a literary evening in the spirit of European multilingualism around the work "Das Ende der Welt dürfte nicht stattgefunden haben" by the Czech author Patrik Ouředník, who lives in France and writes in French, and his translation from French into German by the Austrian Margret Millischer, who will speak about this experience at this event.

The celebrated Czech author and translator Patrik Ouředník (*1957) has lived in France since 1984. He has translated François Rabelais, Raymond Queneau and Samuel Beckett, among others, into Czech, and many Czech authors into French. His 2001 literary experiment "Europeana" is the most translated work of Czech literature after 1989. His most recent book, the novel "The End of the World May Not Have Taken Place", originally written in French, was published by edition.fotoTAPETA in 2023 in a German translation by Margret Millischer.

Margret Mill ischer (*1957) lives and works as a translator and interpreter in Vienna. From 2001 to 2017, she was a lecturer at the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna. She has published numerous literary translations from French, including works by Jean-Michel Maulpoix, Abdellah Taïa, Bernard Noël, Driss Chraibi and Laurent Gaudé.
