Music for freedom and peace

"My baton is my weapon." Under this motto, Canadian-Ukrainian conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson has been fighting for freedom in Ukraine since 2022. She founded the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra just a few weeks after Russia's brutal attack. The orchestra brings together outstanding Ukrainian musicians - from ensembles in the country, from exile and from top European orchestras. Together with soprano Julia Kleiter, they dedicate themselves to Gustav Mahler's "Rückert Lieder" in this program - with his five songs, the composer left behind touching art, which with the number "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen" also became the epitome of Mahler's world flight aesthetics. This will be preceded by a new orchestral work by Ukrainian composer Bohdana Frolyak, whose works continue the vitality of Ukrainian culture even during the war.
