In the organizer's words:

The space of what can be said has become noticeably narrower. Debates are rougher, affiliations are narrower, solidarity is awarded selectively.

The Unmute-evenings see themselves as a critical interim balance, collective reflection and an invitation to uncertainty. Speaking is not automatic - but it remains necessary.

The guests on 24.10. are Dr. Meron Mendel and Saba-Nur Cheema: In September 2024, Meron Mendel, director of the Anne Frank Educational Centre and author, and political scientist, publicist and anti-racism trainer Saba-Nur Cheema published their book Muslim-Jewish Supper.

It deals with kitchen drawers, child education and colonialism. About identity politics, the Middle East conflict, Ramadan lighting in the city center and Christmas trees. Her book is a magnifying glass on our present, a plea for openness even in difficult times: "Our texts are an invitation to everyone to question themselves and their own convictions, to get to know new perspectives and, if in doubt, to accept irritation from time to time."

With this attitude, Dr. Meron Mendel and Saba-Nur Cheema open the new series of talks at Schauspiel Dortmund.
