Borisav Stanković's novel "Impure Blood" is one of the most important works of Serbian literature - and yet it is largely unknown in German-speaking countries. This impressive new production now brings the powerful drama to the stage and makes it accessible to a new audience.
"Impure Blood" is set in the late 19th century and describes a strongly patriarchal country in which the young woman Sofka has to assert herself against social upheaval, abuse and slander. Her struggle for dignity and self-determination reveals fundamental conflicts that repeatedly link the private sphere with the overall political context, making it a timeless parable.
Musically, choreographer Bojana Nenadović focuses on Slavic late Romanticism by using works by Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky with their characteristic dark string sound, which are then contrasted by the progressive and avant-garde sounds of Sergei Prokofiev. The Serbian composer Petar Konjović adds a further component with his music, which is inscribed with a kind of mediating position. Look forward to a gripping, choreographically and musically inspiring new discovery and rediscovery.
