Utopien aus Chile für die Welt

In the organizer's words:

On September 13, 2025, the Latin America - ARTE & KULTUR initiative invites you to a diverse day of action entitled "Utopias from Chile for the World" at Bellevue di Monaco. Between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., the public can look forward to an exciting program with discussions with contemporary witnesses, music, video art, poetry and culinary specialties that will bring Chile's democratic and cultural tradition to life. The event offers space for exchange, reflection and inspiration - especially in times of global crisis.

This includes:
Chilean contemporary witnesses and former exiles will present the Unidad Popular project in a discussion moderated by Sara Gómez, in particular Miguel García and Orlando Gómez. Afterwards, the witnesses will be available for questions and a discussion with the interested audience. Salvador Allende was democratically elected in 1970 as the world's first and only president of an alliance of Marxist, radical democratic and left-wing Christian parties. The "vía chilena al socialismo" is therefore a very special one and worth taking a close look at more than 50 years later;
A newer generation of Chileans reports on the time of the estallido social, the social revolt, which in its motives recurred in some aspects to the Unidad Popular project and added completely different accents, especially through the strong feminist and indigenous presence, which are also inspiring for current political processes. This will be followed by a discussion with those present on what can be learned for future generations from the process surrounding the highly topical and emancipated constitutional proposal;
Dr. Corina Toledo will explain how, during the military dictatorship, after the collapse of the Unidad Popular, women became decisive actors in the struggle for a more comprehensive democracy, which encompassed not only the state but also social relations in the "home". Thus, the feminist perspective on that period should not be missing in order to more fully grasp the complexity of the democratic collapse and resistance in Chile;

Between the speeches and discussions listed above, various Chilean musicians will perform on this day:

The musician Juan Bagatelas, who will mainly perform songs that set decisive impulses during the active time of the Unidad Popular and were highly popular, moreover still resonate worldwide today, such as "el pueblo únido (jamás será vencido)";
The duo Samay&Olian present their own instrumental compositions as well as cover versions, creating their very own contemporary sound - "made in Munich and Chile";
The daughter-father duo Los Solares present their version of the nueva (new) canción;

- In addition to the contributions, Sara Gómez will show video material of the estallido social and play music that was created or rediscovered in the course of the social revolt and recite her long poem 'Santiago' in German and Spanish; - Sara Gómez will also moderate the event on this day and provide intermediate translations (German-Spanish).

The whole event will be rounded off by a culinary program that is a must in Chile: empanadas, ensalada chilena, aji pebre and of course Chilean wine will be offered on the first floor of the Bellevue on this day, attracting walk-in visitors and the curious to join in spontaneously.

All in all, this day will convey Chile's democratic political tradition and what we in Munich and Germany can learn from it, as well as Chilean art and culture.

Conclusion
Especially today, in view of the many crises, in particular the rampant shift to the right and increasingly authoritarian regimes worldwide, the Latin America - ARTE&KULTUR initiative wants to convey a program that not only makes us think but also inspires us and shows us various possible alternatives.
