Georg Friedrich Haas described his composition Hochwald for singing, speaking and whispering cellist, which was written for Valerie Fritz, ECHO Rising Star of the 2025/26 season, as a "venture": "I am relatively far outside my comfort zone with the piece," said the Austrian musician. Haas "exploited" Valerie Fritz's special abilities in this "hellishly difficult piece", as he confessed.

"It's about the subject of 'war' - but the audience may only realize that towards the end of the performance," said the composer, who sees "many parallels between the Thirty Years' War and the Middle East War". " Adalbert Stifter's text also describes the suffering on both sides". The result is an overwhelming solo work lasting around 45 minutes, in which eerie sounds with all kinds of beats and ghostly flautando repeatedly form a powerful counterpoint to the matter-of-factly performed text.

Angela Metzger brings the concert evening to a close with organ works by Philipp Maintz and Thomas Lacôte .
