Jean-Luc and Nathalie are in love, are renovating their apartment and want to get married. Christophe and Patricia are invited to dinner at the couple's place and have had a heated argument on the way there.

Patricia is new to the group, annoyed with Christophe and decides not to say another word - which leads to the two hosts mistaking her for a foreigner who doesn't speak their own language. That's fun, thinks Patricia, suddenly speaking in a fantasy language and inventing a supposed home country somewhere in troubled Eastern Europe.

Christophe wants to sink into the ground with shame. For Nathalie and Jean-Luc, on the other hand, their guest's perfect performance triggers a wave of compassion and willingness to help: Aren't the people in Patricia's home country terribly poor? Can't they give this refugee an old blanket? Or other things that have long been discarded and no longer work?

"Venice in the Snow" is a biting mixture of relationship comedy and social satire - and has been one of the most frequently performed plays in Europe since its premiere in 2003.
