Gallery 1
In her current artistic practice, Hanna Stiegeler explores diverse structures of support. Her starting point are elements that provide support, such as railings, scaffolding, prostheses, fashionable heels or everyday devices such as baby monitors. She examines which systems support and stabilize us in everyday life, in care relationships, networks and in precarious artistic work.
In her first exhibition on this complex of themes in Freiburg, she focuses on prostheses and technical body extensions. As conceptual tools, they enable the artist to develop new forms of support from what is missing or incomplete.
Gallery 2
In her solo exhibition Weep Holes, Entwistle uses the characteristics of E-WERK's underground spaces for her sculptural installations. Patina, decay and industrial residue function as active materials in makeshift assemblages of recycled fragments, ceramics, textiles, archival material and live environmental sounds.
The title of the exhibition refers to letters between Entwistle's great-grandmother Viviane and her grandfather Clive about water ingress, material decay and repeated repairs. The artist combines her sculptural structures with physical porosity and networking. On this basis, she creates resonant spaces between architecture, body and memory that extend feminist materialist practices.
