"Vom Rande aus" tells of places in the Ruhr region that are rarely the center of attention - and yet are full of memories, voices and ruptures. "Many things can be better observed and assessed from the edge. [...] But being on the edge also means being neither here nor there," says Esra Canpalat @asya_long. Her texts - originally written as columns by the author and literary scholar on behalf of Interkultur Ruhr and read by herself in German and Turkish for this exhibition and available as audio - give a sense of what it is like to live between languages, histories and affiliations.

Together with photographs by Fatih Kurçeren @f.kurceren, a multi-layered portrait of the post-migrant emerges - a cartography of the margins in which cracks, transitions and shifts become visible. A sound piece by Foley artist, sound designer and film scholar Simone Nowicki @simone_nowicki_foley makes Esra Canpalat's voice tangible in a special way and opens up a space in which sound, text and memory intertwine.

Aslı Özdemir @asli.oezdemir, whose artistic practice includes both photography and literature, will moderate the opening and enter into conversation with the artists present. Essa Basesa @bass_esa will provide the music for the evening with a DJ set. Free admission.
