Lecture by Prof. Dr. Hélène Miard-Delacroix: 1989 - a year of changing emotions. And 2026?

The year 1989 marked a turning point in the global political balance that still evokes strong emotions today. Memories are characterized above all by the overwhelming joy at the fall of the Berlin Wall. It is easy to forget that this historic event was also preceded by fear, uncertainty and protests, for example in Tian'anmen Square, Leipzig, Prague, Bucharest and Timișoara.

Hélène Miard-Delacroix, Professor of History and Culture of Contemporary Germany at Sorbonne University, will trace these developments in her lecture on July 8 at 7 pm. She will show how people in Europe experienced the events between amazement and hope and often had the impression of witnessing a historical domino effect. It also makes references to the current global political situation.

The former member of the Bundestag.D. Gert Weisskirchen will introduce the topic. Following the lecture, the audience is invited to an open discussion.
