Wachhaus #17: Antonia Hermes

In her installation, Antonia Hermes deals with the blurring of orders in spaces, objects and language. In doing so, she plays with the gaps between giving meaning and naming the known and the unknown. Found objects, such as excerpts from an archive cabinet at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, become the starting point for her exploration. The physical and metaphorical spaces created by the layering and juxtaposition of objects make room for new contexts and narratives. The title of the exhibition is borrowed from the concept of the "fuzzy set", which originates from linguistics: it is based on the theory that linguistic categories are gradual, i.e. have transitions rather than clear boundaries.
The Wachhaus exhibition series is a cooperation with the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, in which students realize a new installation on site every two months. After a cycle of six presentations, one contribution is awarded a prize at an award ceremony the following year
