We Are Family

In ancient Mycenae, Clytemnestra has taken power. She murdered her husband Agamemnon when he returned home from the Trojan War in revenge for the death of their daughter Iphigenia. The young woman was sacrificed by Agamemnon for "favorable winds" on the crossing to Troy, where the male honor of his brother Menelaus was to be restored, supported by Achilles and many other heroes. Now Clytemnestra, together with Phryne, a former "captured" hetaera, attempts to establish a female counter-concept of power. But her second daughter Elektra takes the side of her dead father.

The antique overwriting "We Are Family" was created in 2024 as a commissioned work for Schauspiel Köln. Tine Rahel Völcker is writing a new ending for the production at Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, which will be premiered under the direction of Jana Vetten.
