An in-house production by the SchauspielClub
Maybe change doesn't always start with a bang.
Perhaps it begins with a woman who stops where she has always avoided.
This play was born out of questions.
Out of anger. Out of shame. From doubts.
From experiences that many of us share and that have been kept quiet for far too long.
Because I am a girl! tells of mirrors that tell us we are not enough. Of role models that are narrower than any stage space. Of assaults whose echo remains in the body. Of care work that is invisible. Of wage gaps, expectations, attributions. Of period blood, people pleasing, perfectionism and this constant question: who am I when I stop trying to please everyone?
But this play is more than an indictment. It is a declaration of love to our mothers, who had to be strong, often without being allowed to be weak.
To our grandmothers and all the women before them who had fewer rights and yet created spaces in which we are allowed to stand today.
We are not too loud. Not too emotional. Not too much. We are angry. And we have the right to be.
Not quiet. Not adapted. Not more.
