When a loved one dies, there are no words. Or do they? Augusta Laar, inventor and director of the Schamrock salons and festivals, has invited two celebrated poets to confront speechlessness. Nora Gomringer has been mourning her mother since 2020 and her father more recently. In her book "Am Meerschwein übt das Kind den Tod" (Voland & Quist) and on Instagram, she creates a shimmering palimpsest of memories. Those who cannot overcome grief have another option: to learn to live with it. In her essay "Gespräch über die Trauer" and in the poetry collection "Such nach dem Namen des Windes" (both S. Fischer), Olga Martynova addresses her husband, who died in 2018. Augusta Laar tries to grasp the incomprehensible by collecting "Messages from Pain" in a new volume to be published in December (Edition Melos). In their joint séance, they will banish the ghosts of silence with texts and music.
