What is a world field? Why 2000 m²?
And what will happen on the world field?

If you're asking yourself these questions, you've come to the right place at the Weltacker opening. Whether big or small, you are invited to get to know the topics of the Weltacker and experience them on site. We would be delighted if you were there to celebrate the opening with us!

What exactly is a world field?

If we divide the approximately 1.6 billion hectares of arable land worldwide by the number of people on earth, each person gets 2000 m². That is the share of arable land that we are all entitled to. It must be used to grow what feeds and supplies us: wheat for bread, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, as well as maize and soybeans as fodder crops for animals, but also sugar beet for the sugar in tea or coffee, cotton for T-shirts, sunflowers for cooking oil and rapeseed for biodiesel. These 2000 m² can now also be seen and experienced in Dortmund - on our new world field!

You can findmore information about the World Field idea HERE.

The construction of the World Field is supported by HORIZON Europe as part of the REDESIGN project. The Dortmund Food Council is an active part of the REDESIGN project and is realizing a world field as a real laboratory, as a place of learning and dialogue at the Schultenhof Dortmund.
