This look into the innards of a family begins with a secretly slaughtered sheep: the great-grandmother stirs the blood for the sausages, the great-uncle sleeps for fifteen years, the grandmother steals the tiles from the roof at night. And in the end, the great-granddaughter Alma puts the pieces of the family story together. What connects us to those who came before us? In short, masterfully condensed passages, Austrian author Anna Maschik unfolds the cosmos of a family across the generations. It is a story of favored siblings, of crazy transformations, of the failure of sleep and language.
Laconic and full of floating magic, it tells of what predestination is and whether it is possible to escape it. The surprise debut of the fall (Luchterhand).
