The complex relationship with a younger man becomes the occasion for a self-questioning that goes back to childhood. In the highs and lows of an intense friendship and love for a younger artist, Andreas Wilink condenses his own character traits. The question of where and why leads back to the family relationships that gave his emotional life its direction forever, to all the loves that never quite came true and to friendships that always reflected his own - from his school days to the years of his work as a journalist, which brought him very close to famous people and their fates. The result is a linguistically refined and very personally told story of life and mentality against the backdrop of the German and international cultural world.

Andreas Wilink, born in Bocholt in 1957, is a cultural journalist and theater and film critic. He lives in Düsseldorf. As an author, he has written for WDR, Deutschlandfunk, nachtkritik and Theater heute, among others. In 2019, he published his collection of essays "Aus der Fernnähe. Encounters with Theater and Film Artists" was published by C. W. Leske Verlag. "Wenn es anders wäre" is his literary debut with Lilienfeld Verlag.
