3 plays about love

Study project 2 of the directing course at the HfMDK Frankfurt in cooperation with the stage design / scenic space course at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main.

THE BETWEEN US

Deniz Özbay (*1996) dedicates "Das zwischen uns" to the various forms of silence in a romantic relationship. Silence as an expression of closeness, as a protective space, but also as a strategy for avoiding conflict. From the intimacy of an understanding that does not require words, a destructive dynamic develops until the characters, without knowing exactly how, find their love in ruins.

THE BEAR

Veronika Artibilova (*2002) stages a classic with "The Bear" based on Anton Chekhov. When the hot-headed Smirnov, a retired adjutant general, intrudes on the widow Popova's dubious mourning in order to claim old debts from her deceased husband, he suddenly arouses the young woman's anger - but also her spirits. Under the watchful eye of the servant Luca, the argument turns into a demand for a duel. But is there perhaps more to the dislike than initially suspected?

'BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM!

In "But Daddy, I Love Him", Julia Chaplygienaa (*2003) examines internet fan communities as spaces for collective trauma management. Be it on TikTok, Tumblr or Archive of Our Own: in the safe anonymity of screen names, behind the facade of a fictional character, in a world that is not our own, we often show more of ourselves than we would reveal to our closest friends.
