Wild Rhineland - animal tracks in the Wahner Heide

With its enchanted sandy landscapes, the Wahner Heide between Cologne and Bonn offers perfect conditions for tracking animals. We follow the marked hiking trails and discover the tracks of red deer, wild boar, red fox, wild rabbits and more.

There is almost always a surprise!

On this foray, we open our senses, perceive the landscape with our whole body and try to put ourselves in the shoes of the wild animals that make their home here. We decipher the animal tracks we find, place them in a larger ecological context and experience a piece of Rhineland "wilderness" up close.

Meeting point:

The starting point is a parking lot at Linder Mauspfad, 53842 Troisdorf. The exact location will be communicated in advance by e-mail.

From there, we walk for about 2.5-3 hours and about 4.5 km. In between there are sections with a slight incline.

The walk ends at the "Waldwirtschaft Heidekönig" (der-heidekoenig.de), the most beautiful beer garden in the region (also with a cozy indoor area). If you like, you can end the morning there with a drink or a piece of cake. From here it is about a 10-minute walk back to the starting point.

Hints:

Please remember to wear suitable footwear and clothing appropriate to the weather/season. In summer it can get very hot on the heath. Please remember to bring enough water and snacks. Dogs should be left at home for the duration of the walk. You will not leave the official hiking trails at any point on this walk.
