Exhibition: "Willi Steinert a revolutionary in the Nazi era"
Art Impressions is showing a collection that provides an overview of "Willi Steinert".
Willi Steinert (* January 1, 1886 in Breslau; † 1969 in Berlin) was an important German illustrator and caricaturist whose work played a prominent role in the political satire of the early 20th century. He was particularly known for his contributions to satirical publications such as "Wahren Jacob" and "Ulk", which were widely distributed in social democratic and communist circles.
In the political landscape of the Weimar Republic, the term "workers' party", which was used by the National Socialists, posed a constant threat to social democracy.
Steinert, who came from a mining background, regularly created sharp-witted and often biting drawings directed against the radical right-wing Workers' Party.
These critical statements were not without consequences; he was banned from his profession during the National Socialist regime. This was hardly surprising, as numerous anti-Nazi caricatures were published in "True Jacob" that reflected Steinert's stance.
Although only limited information is available about Steinert, it is undisputed that he was a talented artist whose work deserves more in-depth research and appreciation. At a time when social tensions are once again on the rise, Steinert's message remains highly relevant.
It is vital that both young people and society as a whole recognize that democracy requires an active attitude.
