WINTERKIND - Made in GDR

In the organizer's words:

In June 1973, Lykke Langer began her career in the state childcare system of the GDR. She was six weeks old and came to the company crèche at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig. Her childhood is characterized by stays in day nurseries and children's homes, a father who is no longer there at some point, a brother who does not live with her. Lykke finds refuge in water jumping, has ambitions and success in competitive sport. Applications to leave the country and family entanglements with state security put an abrupt end to her dreams.

WINTERKIND uses this life story to tell an exemplary tale of growing up in the GDR system; of a search for meaning, for affiliation and participation and, above all, gives an idea of the strength that is necessary to continue living under such circumstances.
