Wippsteert – Folk-Rock "up platt"

Wippsteert are the musical Low German crash course for your ears! With folk rock "up Platt" and a good dose of pub charm, the six musicians from the Osnabrück region turn High German into a foreign language. Where mandolin, accordion, sports guitar and tacking banjo join Low German provincial wisdom, singing along at the edge of the stage becomes compulsory. Wippsteert are a rock band with a folk touch and bar poets with a penchant for pop. They are storytellers who bring their unmistakable mix of styles to the stage with a wink, but also with great emotion, captivating not only native speakers of Low German.

Singer and frontman Marcus "Bruni" Bruns was determined that it should be "folky" when the band got together in the tranquil town of Alfhausen in 2014. However, the first album released a year later by the then five band members shows that this categorization alone does not do justice to the Wippsteert sound. "Folkplattcore" eventually became the name of a newly created genre and at the same time the title of the self-produced album. Neither German nor English can be heard on it. Instead, the band dedicates itself to the language that has always been spoken in the province of Lower Saxony and which singer Bruni in particular lives by: Platt! The name of the band: Wippsteert - Low German for wagtail. Restless and bustling, always on the move.

The band's efforts to maintain and preserve the Low German language are not the least of the reasons why they have received funding and awards. After numerous concerts in northern Germany and guest appearances on the radio, the second album "An un' för sück" is released in 2020 in collaboration with the Osnabrück label Timezone Records. A consistent further development between Low German ballad, country folk and rock board. Wippsteert are accompanied by producer Matthias Lohmöller from the Docmaklang studio in Osnabrück. It is the musical basis for the band's third album "Flügge", which will be released in 2023.
