Munich premiere followed by a film discussion - in the presence of Simon Baumann (director)
Stephanie and Ruedi Baumann's life's work - an organic farm that they have run with political zeal and dedication for over 20 years - lies in the middle of the idyllic French countryside. As they get older, the question arises as to who will take over the farm one day. Their son Simon, long established in his own life as a filmmaker, accompanies the family with his camera as they think about this future. His brother Kilian already runs his own business. Both are faced with the challenge of reconciling personal paths and the responsibility of inheritance.
WIR ERBEN tells the story of a family in which personal relationships, ideals and the reality of farming are inextricably linked. The conversations and conflicts make it clear how great the invisible burdens are: Expectations, ideas, the unspoken pressure between the generations. With subtle humor and ruthless honesty, the farm handover becomes a mirror of central questions: What does responsibility mean? How much freedom does an inheritance allow? And how fair is inheritance in a time when property is unequally distributed?
The result is an intimate portrait that goes beyond the personal story: a film about property, justice and the future of farms.
WIR ERBEN has received numerous awards, including in Locarno (2024), at DOK.fest Munich (2025) and the Swiss Film Award (2025).
