Hedgehog habitats are increasingly threatened by the displacement of native plants, insect mortality, increasing traffic, the sealing of surfaces, the increased use of pesticides and the use of mowing robots and string trimmers. In Germany, the wild animal of the year 2024 is therefore even on the early warning list of endangered species. The hedgehog is one of the oldest mammals on our planet and is quietly threatening to disappear.

In his lecture, the speaker explains why the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology - BIPS is dedicated to the health of hedgehogs and why this project cannot do without reference to human health.
