Clouds are one of the most fascinating and omnipresent phenomena in our atmosphere. Clouds appear in a wide variety of forms. They can end droughts, but they can also bring floods and devastation. They influence our weather, our daily lives and play a decisive role in the complex climate system. Understanding clouds has never been more important than it is today.
The natural science exhibition at the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt invites you on an exciting journey through the world of clouds. With breathtaking, multimedia visualizations of spectacular weather events, up-to-date scientific information, 3D cloud models and exhibits from the collection of the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt, the exhibition makes what happens in the sky above our heads tangible. In the cloud chamber, visitors can experience the phenomenon of cloud formation live. The exhibition helps visitors to differentiate between the various types of clouds, provides a clear scientific background and offers insights into current cloud research.
Visitors will be impressed by unprecedented replicas of various cloud types, up to eight meters in size. Dramatic weather changes with thunderstorms and tornadoes are brought to life in the VR station. In the "Sky Room" high above the exhibition, visitors are invited to view our "Clouds. Experience and Understand" invite visitors to indulge in the clouds. Together with current research findings on topics such as cloud types, climate and animal rainfall as well as historical background information, the exhibition combines scientific findings with a breathtaking experience.
The immersive exhibition "Clouds. Experience and Understand" allows visitors to become "cloud researchers" themselves and better understand the dynamic processes that influence our planet.
