Clouds have always fascinated us with their beauty and diversity. They are not only a symbol of transience and constant change, but also provide valuable information on minor and major weather conditions and climatic changes. As important indicators for weather forecasting, clouds play a central role, especially for agriculture, which traditionally depends heavily on reliable weather forecasts.
The City History Center is making a small contribution to the exhibition from its collection. A good year brought a good harvest, a bad year meant a time of hunger. In order to prepare themselves, people developed various methods that they hoped would influence, predict and interpret the weather. The so-called "lost days" in particular were supposed to provide crucial clues for the rest of the year. They were written down in "farmer's rules", calendars and guidebooks, which were used by the general population, mainly farmers, well into the 20th century.
The special exhibition "Cloud Love" presents impressive photographs by the Eichstätt cloud value estimator Hubert P. Klotzeck. All the works on display were taken in the Altmühltal valley around Eichstätt. With its 360-degree panoramic view, the Jura plateau offers ideal conditions for observing the sky and invites you to look up into the heavens. In his photographs, Klotzeck captures a wide variety of cloud formations - from delicate veils and dramatic storm clouds to delicate feathery structures and monumental skyscapes. These unique snapshots of textures and light reflect the incredible diversity and dynamics of the sky. The exhibition invites visitors to sharpen their eye for the often overlooked beauties above our heads. Because sometimes all it takes is the courage to look up to discover the ephemeral splendor of the clouds.
