Lecture on relationship patterns on the internet and in everyday life

Toxic relationships - it's not just Britney Spears who sings about them. They lurk everywhere, in our private lives, at university, at work and in digital spaces. On platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Reddit, we are confronted with supposedly appropriate content - controlled by algorithms that want one thing above all else: our attention.

Anne Bentrup is a social worker and certified sex and relationship counselor. She has been working as a research assistant in the Equal Opportunities Office at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences since 2020.

In her participatory lecture, she takes a close look at popular online content. She analyzes patterns of toxic dynamics and asks: How do I recognize problematic relationship patterns? What content reinforces dependencies, feelings of guilt or control?
