Zauber der Laute

In the organizer's words:

Program:
Works by John Dowland, Joan Ambrosio Dalza, Girolamo Kapsberger, Robert de Visée, Marin Marais and Johann Sebastian Bach

The lute was first mentioned 2000 years before Christ on clay tablets from Mesopotamia. The instrument probably came to Europe over 1000 years ago through the Moors and Saracens. During the Renaissance, the lute was even praised as the queen of instruments, until it was increasingly replaced by other string and keyboard instruments from the 18th century onwards. It was only with the establishment of historical performance practice in the 20th century that it received new attention. Thomas Dunford is a true master of the lute: the Franco-American artist, born in Paris in 1988 as the son of two gambists, first encountered the instrument at the age of nine and has remained faithful to it ever since. His program in the enchanting ambience of Clemenswerth Hunting Lodge ranges from early English baroque to French high baroque and late German baroque. A journey through an era full of glitz and glamor, on which Thomas Dunford can show off all the advantages of "his" instrument with dexterity, improvisational joy and transparency!
