Zine-Workshop: Haare & Nägel

In the organizer's words:

to wish ... to neglect ... to adapt ... to wish away ... to show ... to wish differently ... to care ... to stand out ... to make more beautiful ... to hide ... to accept ... to remove ... to decide for yourself ... to belong ... what are hair + nails for you?

We start with a short writing exercise to collect our thoughts on the topic of hair + nails. Then you will design your zine using beautiful old magazines, books and postcards. You are also welcome to bring your own material.

Along the way, I'll show you tips and tricks to make zine-making even more fun.

Very important: You don't have to know or prepare anything. Anyone can make zines. And they're best when they're imperfect :)

What is a zine?

"Zine" is the abbreviation for "magazine". It is a small booklet that is made by hand and can be easily reproduced and distributed.

The zine culture has its origins in the African-American Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. In the 1930s, the science fiction fan community flourished in zines. Zines then established themselves in the punk scene in the 70s, in the 80s they were a mouthpiece for AIDS awareness, in the 90s for feminism. To this day, they are a popular subculture medium for informing and entertaining others. In the workshop, Auntie Trash will show you a few examples so that you can get an idea of all the terms.
