Democracy and memory
Lukas Bärfuss in conversation with: Omri Boehm
When does memory become a weapon - and when does it become a condition for justice? The German-Israeli philosopher Omri Boehm calls for a radical renewal of political thought: against ethnic nationalism, against the erosion of democratic principles, against an emptied remembrance. Boehm outlines a philosophy of equality that does not stop at reasons of state or cultural taboos. He argues for a universal human right that must not be sacrificed to any interests - and is met with strong reactions.
Born in Haifa as the grandson of Holocaust survivors and now a professor in New York, Boehm combines religious-philosophical depth with political explosiveness. According to Boehm, anyone who says "Never again" must say it for everyone - or remain silent.
