To mark the 30th anniversary of Depot e.V., SweetSixteen Kino is showing a film from the founding year 1995 on the second Friday of every month.
Depot e.V. was founded as an association 30 years ago. Originating from the search for suitable spaces and opportunities to work artistically and creatively, the association came across the abandoned tram depot in Immermannstraße. Driven by unbridled passion and a thirst for action, a large circle of users and supporters quickly came together. Workshops, studios and event rooms were created with a great deal of personal effort. In 2001, after a lengthy renovation phase, the depot as you know it today was opened. In the meantime, more than 40 users from different areas of the art and culture industry are based and working at the depot.
The sweetSixteen cinema joined a little later, but took the Depot anniversary as an opportunity to take a look back at film history. Which films were shown in the arthouse cinemas in 1995, which may have become classics or cult films and which ones we particularly liked. The result is a small film series with what we consider to be particularly beautiful, important and formative films from 1995.
Every second Friday at 19:00, we cordially invite you to join us on this journey into the past and watch favorite films that have not been seen for a long time (or perhaps never before).

Clerks - The Shopkeepers OmU
(Comedy, US 1994, 92 min., FSK: unspecified, Director: Kevin Smith)
Kevin Smith's cult feature film debut was shot on a minimal budget, with a lot of improvisation and passion - and quickly became a classic of the independent scene. The black and white comedy follows the chaotic working day of Dante Hicks, who is supposed to be off work but is now helping out in a small quick-stop store. Between bizarre customers, his best friend Randal from the video store next door and turbulent relationship conversations, his day gets completely out of hand. With its humor, quick-witted dialogue and rough charm, Clerks became a phenomenon of the 90s and the starting point for Kevin Smith's career.

Dead Man
(Drama/Western, US/JA/DE 1995, 116 min., FSK: 16+, Director: Jim Jarmusch)
Jim Jarmusch's extraordinary black-and-white western follows the shy accountant William Blake (Johnny Depp), who is on the run through the Wild West after a fatal incident. At his side: the mysterious Nobody (Gary Farmer), who believes him to be a reincarnation of the poet William Blake. Dead Man is not a classic western, but a meditative, dark road movie about life, death and cultural ruptures - carried by Neil Young's hypnotic guitar soundtrack.

Smoke - Smokers among themselves
(Tragicomedy, DE/US 1995, 110 min, FSK: from 12 years, Director: Paul Auster/ Wayne Wang)
Smoke is a melancholy declaration of love to the everyday. It centers on Auggie (Harvey Keitel), the owner of a tobacco store in Brooklyn, who photographs the intersection in front of his store every morning at eight sharp. His store becomes a meeting place for quirky, vulnerable, lovable characters - including the writer Paul (William Hurt), who has been unable to write since the death of his wife, and the young Rashid (Harold Parrineau Jr.), who wants to reorganize his life. Smoke weaves their stories into a quiet, warm portrait of coincidences, encounters and the small moments that shape our lives.
