The Kunstverein Deutsche Gesellschaft für christliche Kunst e.V. was founded in 1893 as a supra-regional, non-profit and independent cultural institution. All of the association's activities are linked by the examination of existential human issues. Four to five exhibitions per year are shown in the DG Kunstraum, accompanied by a broad supporting program, including lecture series, artist talks, concerts and readings.
Mission statement
The aim of the association is to strengthen the arts and the discourse between people and the present. The structure of the entire board reflects the Kunstverein's field of dialog between art, architecture and theology. We conduct this dialog with a Christian attitude that opens up space for spirituality and transcendence. Our self-image is characterized by hope and respect, by respect for creation and human dignity. Central to us are values such as openness to the diversity of life, responsible action and just and compassionate cooperation.
With the DG Kunstraum, we provide an interdisciplinary workshop where interested people can exchange ideas and be inspired by the themes of our time through the visual arts as well as music, science, architecture, theology and philosophy. We consciously seek contact with other institutions for joint events, exhibition concepts or touring exhibitions. It is important to us to stimulate an open and pluralistic discourse using the visual arts as a resource, but also architecture, music, theology and philosophy.
Work
Meaningful encounters and qualified debate require generous space, expertise, documentation and benevolent support. Dialogue and respect in our dealings with all project partners are important to us. Artists are supported in a variety of ways: by paying exhibition fees in line with the guidelines of the Federal Association of Visual Artists, by covering production costs and by issuing publications on the exhibitions.
