Initiative for social rehabilitation e.V.
"Up close, no one is normal"
The Initiative zur sozialen Rehabilitation e.V. (hereinafter referred to as Initiative...e.V.) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1982 in connection with the closure of a long-term psychiatric clinic and the critical examination of conventional, medically oriented psychiatry.
The Italian psychiatric reform movement at the time coined the phrase "Seen up close, no one is normal". This sentence still has meaning for us and is intended to express the fact that "normality" is not a yardstick. Every person has an individual personality and a variety of formative life experiences. The question of what might be "normal" is irrelevant to us.
Today, the Initiative...e.V. offers psychosocial, educational and practical assistance for mentally ill, addicted, drug-addicted and cognitively impaired people in qualified assistance (formerly outpatient assisted living) (integration assistance according to SGB IX).
Even though we are very familiar with diagnoses, they are of secondary importance to us in the assistance service. We focus on people's needs and the support services we can provide so that they can live as independently and happily as possible. The principles of empowerment, recovery and inclusion are at the heart of our work, alongside user orientation and participation as well as a focus on the living environment and the neighborhood.
With this in mind, we are committed to self-determined and independent living as well as participation in social life and work contexts for our users in our qualified assistance and other areas of work.
Our employment offer (integration assistance) according to the service type BOT (employment-oriented social participation) provides the framework for meaningful activities.
The FOKUS, Center for Education and Participation, and the district projects "Spiel- und Gemeinschaftshaus im Wilden Westen" and Café Abseits relate to a large extent to the social space and the promotion of disadvantaged groups.
Initiative...e.V. is a 100% shareholder of Initiative für Kinder, Jugendliche und Familien GmbH (youth and family support), Comeback GmbH (company in the outpatient drug support system) and G.i.B. mbH (company for integrative employment). Initiative...e.V. is a partner in the EigenArt women's space in Dölvesstraße in Bremen.
