The Instituto Cervantes is a non-profit, public institution founded by the Spanish state in 1991 to promote the Spanish language and disseminate Hispanic-American culture. The institute's headquarters are located in Madrid and Alcalá de Henares, the birthplace of the writer Miguel de Cervantes. The Instituto Cervantes is the largest Spanish language center in the world. There are already more than 88 centers and more than 45 countries on five continents.
