The hospital museum is a surprising place.
The exhibition rooms are located in a listed courtyard building of the old psychiatric hospital in the middle of a historic park. The permanent exhibition presents the history of psychiatry in Bremen from its beginnings to the 20th century.
What is crazy? How do we deal with illness? The presentation deliberately addresses these questions. Historical treatment devices illustrate forms of therapy and treatment of their time. Interactive stations and listening islands tell the stories of patients, doctors, carers and relatives.
A separate chapter is dedicated to psychiatry under National Socialism.

In addition, temporary exhibitions reflect the tension between medicine and art, between the present and history. The traveling exhibition "Devalued - Excluded - Killed. Medical crimes against children under National Socialism" deals with the "euthanasia" of children and how society dealt with the crimes.
