The Landesverband der Gartenfreunde Bremen is the umbrella organization of the allotment garden movement in Bremen, Bremerhaven and Wesermünde. In Bremen, around a third of the unsealed urban green spaces (1040 ha) are allotment gardens. These provide an important habitat for many animals and plants. The regional federation has represented the interests of around 17,000 gardening enthusiasts from 100 associations since 1910. As an umbrella organization, it advises and trains the boards of the associations, trains specialist advisors and valuers, offers active environmental education as well as projects for schools and kindergartens.

As one of the associations with the largest number of members in Bremen, it represents the interests of allotment gardeners in politics, administration, the public and in the federal federation with 900,000 members. The office is surrounded by a 10,000 square meter ecological educational garden, which is open to the public free of charge during business hours.

"The purpose of the national federation is to promote allotment gardening. It supports the allotment garden movement and is committed to strengthening nature conservation and environmental protection", according to its statutes. The approximately 6 square kilometer allotment garden areas are spread over the entire city area. They are integrated into the city's network of paths and green spaces and are available to everyone as recreational areas for walking. The unsealed areas offer retreats for native plants and animals. Some associations also have orchards, bee pastures, wetland biotopes and nature trails.
