Info and history

The Lichtburg is the jewel of German cinema culture and tradition. For 90 years it has impressed with its grandiose architecture, incomparable atmosphere and special selection of films. Opened in 1928, the Lichtburg can look back on an eventful history. The entire building was completely renovated in 2002 and has shone in new splendor since March 2003. Today, the cinema has 1,250 seats, a screen measuring around 150 square meters, the latest image and sound technology and a large theater stage. The latter offers a wide range of possibilities for concerts, musicals, theater, dance and other stage events.

In addition to Germany's largest movie theater, the second auditorium "Sabu" with 150 seats is located in the basement of the Lichtburg.

Every month, up to ten new, attractive films are shown in both theaters. In addition, NRW, German and world premieres are shown at irregular intervals.
