Münchner Lach- und Schießgesellschaft

The Münchner Lach- und Schießgesellschaft, also known as the Lach und Schieß, was founded as a political cabaret in 1956 by journalist Sammy Drechsel and Dieter Hildebrandt. Sammy Drechsel was the head and director of the cabaret until his death in 1986. Together with Dieter Hildebrandt and Klaus Peter Schreiner, he also wrote around 80 percent of the texts. The musical director was Walter Kabel, who also composed the music. In February 2023, operations were discontinued due to financial difficulties.

Provisional insolvency proceedings were initiated on March 21, 2023, which were soon followed by a restart - with the youngest ensemble in the interim venue "Spiegelsaal des Deutschen Theaters."^[1] Performances resumed at Ursulastrasse 9 on November 11, 2024 under the motto "Der Laden läuft wieder".

On November 16, 2025, the Lach- und Schießgesellschaft with its traditional illuminated sign moved from Ursulastraße to Haidhausen to the Gasteig ("Fat Cat") as a new location for interim use.^[2]
